The NSPCC states that, ‘Schools play an essential role in protecting children from abuse. They have regular contact with children and young people so are in a strong position to identify signs of abuse and neglect.’
At Rowley Park Academy we are committed to safeguarding children and young people and we expect everyone who works in our school to share this commitment. We have built a strong, robust safeguarding culture within our school which supports children by:
- Developing strong, positive relationships between children and adults which are based on respect and encourages children to talk about anything that may worry them.
- Delivering a curriculum which teaches children many aspects of safeguarding including how to manage risk and keep themselves safe.
- Creating an environment where all children feel safe and supported.
- Ensuring that all adults in school receive up-to-date training and are confident when dealing with a concern.
Communication with Parents
Rowley Park Academy work closely with parents to identify support early. School will always discuss concerns with parents/carers and consent for any referrals should be sought unless to do so would:
- Place the child at risk of significant harm or further risk of significant harm.
- Place a vulnerable adult at risk of harm.
- Compromise any enquiries that need to be undertaken by children’s social care or the police.
We endeavour to ensure that parents have an understanding of the responsibilities placed on the school and staff for safeguarding children. Our Safeguarding and other related policies are available on our school website, click here.
Safeguarding all children from harm is everyone’s business.
Most children enjoy generally safe and happy childhood experiences within their own family but unfortunately for some, this is not the case.
If you are worried about any child, please contact Staffordshire Children’s Advice and Support Service (SCAS) on 0300 111 8007 and select option 1.
